APRIL 2008

A New (Day on Planet) Earth!

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors,
we borrow it from our children."
Native American Proverb

No doubt, you noticed Earth Day a couple of weeks ago. It was the day we were to honor our planet, Earth. I read about going green. I heard about rallies and expos and meditation and prayer gatherings. I’m still working on more ways I can implement some of the suggestions I read about.

This past Earth Day, I also noticed that more focus is being put on us to make every day a day of honoring our planet. And when I stay present with that intention, I can make great strides. I can be with new experiences that I relate to Earth. And when I don’t, I hear the water running while I brush my teeth. Sheesh!

Our home is not to be taken for granted. Our children are not either. They will inherit all that we have failed to recognize and all that we have taken for granted.

Self-sacrifice is a way to restore what is sacred in our lives. For instance, by using less paper, we can save the rain forests, thereby making the forests sacred. We can give up other things, as well, like aerosols, blaming others, too much sugar and complaining. And this too can change the worth of our lives, as we make something sacred. Now, isn’t that a new take on Earth Day?

What changes are you making in honor of Earth Day? Are you feeling deprived? Or can you honor that which you deem sacred? Try a new spin that leads to honoring.

Each day is a new day on Earth -- our beloved home planet. When you look up at the sky tonight and you see all of those spectacular stars and planets, remember to love the one you’re with – SACRED EARTH!
