MARCH 2006

Welcome! I appreciate your willingness to receive my gift of inspiration to you.

“Life is both giving and receiving.”
Mohawk Indian Nation

What is it that you want from life? Is it to give? Or is it to receive? This poses an interesting dialogue.

What is the greatest thing we can give to others? One great gift is to make a difference in another’s life. And there is a fantastic way to do this. It may give rise to some new thinking on our parts, which is well worth our efforts in this regard. Is it giving love, compassion, friendship? While those are wonderful gifts, there is something even greater than that.

Have you ever been offered assistance, and then said, “No, I can do it myself”? How many times have we been handed a compliment, only to partially receive it by replying, “Thank you, but I don’t think so”? How does this hinder our abilities to truly experience life? Why would we want to shut ourselves off from the contributions of others? After all, we have invited these individuals into our lives in one way or another.

The greatest gift you can give to another is to completely and wholeheartedly open yourself up and allow them to contribute to you. That is, to receive.

So, how can we open up more to receive what others are intending to give? When someone wants to help you, let them. When a suggestion or resource is offered to benefit your situation, provide your thanks. Upon receiving a compliment, accept it with grace. When a child wants to share a discovery or treasure found in today’s play time, stop and take a deep breath and look into those little eyes and start to feel that excitement. Enjoy and just “be” in the space your contributor provides for you. It is the greatest gift you can give.

And there’s more . . . accepting a contribution wholly and from your heart paves the way for more contributions. It’s never-ending. How interesting is that?

“The more you give,
the more good things come to you.”
